The Grossglockner-Heiligenblut ski resort is located in the state of Carinthia in Austria.
The snow-assured ski resort of Heiligenblut is situated on the slopes of the Hochfleiss and Schareck overlooking the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain. Here you can enjoy the beautiful nature and breathtaking views in both summer and winter. In winter you will find a wide variety of pistes.
The Grossglockner-Heiligenblut ski area is easily accessible. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is closed in winter. You can reach the area via the Tauern Autobahn (A10), exit Spittal an der Drau towards Lienz. From the south via the Felbertauern road (B108).
By train
Take the train to Lienz and from there take a bus or taxi to Heiligenblut.
By aeroplane
The nearest major airports are at Salzburg and Klagenfurt.
Großglockner-Heiligenblut is a beautiful ski area with long runs in a peaceful atmosphere. The views of the Großglockner (3,798 metres), Austria's highest mountain, are truly impressive.
There are 20 km of blue runs, 34 km of red runs and 1 km of black runs. This makes it suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. Most of the pistes are sunny all day and more than half of them are over 2000 metres. This is a great area for freeriders and advanced skiers, with plenty of long powder runs. You can also go ski touring here.
The area has 11 modern ski lifts, including chairlifts and gondolas, which get you up quickly. Queues are short.
Guaranteed snow
Due to its high altitude (up to 2902 metres), the area is snow-sure. The season usually runs from December to late March or early April.
Ski bus
There are several ski bus routes in the area that will take you to and from Heiligenblut valley station. The ski bus is free with a valid ski pass.
The main towns nearby are Heiligenblut am Großglockner and Großkirchheim.
Heiligenblut (1288m) lies at the foot of the Grossglockner. It is a traditional mountain village with a beautiful church. Heiligenblut has cosy restaurants, cafes and shops. Everything is available here.
Großkirchheim (1024m) lies in the Mölltal valley in Carinthia. It is only 10 km from Heiligenblut, so you have easy access to the ski area.
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is nearby, ideal for summer holidays. Großkirchheim is home to Schloss Großkirchheim (now a museum) and the historic church of Döllach. Großkirchheim also has everything you need for an enjoyable holiday in Austria.

We have everything you need for a great holiday! As well as skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing, you can go hiking, snowshoeing, ice skating, ice climbing, curling, tobogganing or horse-drawn sleigh rides. All in the beautiful surroundings of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
You can also go swimming in the indoor pool. There are two swimming pools, a whirlpool, solarium and sauna.
The Großglockner Heiligenblut ski area is a self-contained ski area.
There are no other ski resorts in the immediate vicinity. A little further away are, for example, the ski resorts Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei, Ankogel and Nassfeld.
Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei:
This ski area is located in East Tyrol about 55 km from Heiligenblut. Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei is one of the larger ski areas in that region, with a large number of slopes for all levels and a modern lift system.
Ankogel:
This area is about 50 km from Heiligenblut. Ski resort Ankogel is located near Mallnitz and offers challenging slopes for advanced skiers, as well as some wide slopes for beginners. It has a maximum altitude of 2,636 metres and offers stunning views of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Nassfeld is one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in Carinthia, Austria. It is not directly next to Großglockner-Heiligenblut, but it is an important ski area in Carinthia, about 100 km away from Heiligenblut. It offers something for every type of winter sportsman, from families and beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders.
The area around Heiligenblut is perfect for cross-country skiing.
You can go down into the valley with beautiful views of the Grossglockner.
You can also try the high altitude trails 'Großglockner' and 'Sonnblick'. These are at an altitude of up to 2,300 metres.
You can toboggan on the Ponwald toboggan run on the Winkl in Heiligenblut. The 1km long track is floodlit. The toboggan run is open daily until 22:00. The start of the toboggan run is at the Rezschitzbrücke car park.
Next to the toboggan run is the Heiligenblut skating rink.
Großglockner Heiligenblut has its unique Freeride Arena, an area of no less than 15km2. Here enthusiasts can let their hair down.
The Großglockner-Heiligenblut ski area requires the Großglockner-Heiligenblut ski pass. This ski pass gives you access to all the lifts and slopes in the area and offers a number of options.
You won't find big après-ski parties in the Großglockner Heiligenblut ski area, but there are après-ski options. Try the Almrausch at Rossbach mid-station, the Skistadl Tauernberg or the Laterndl and Hirschenbar in Heiligenblut.
There are two ski and snowboard schools here.
The Schneesportschule Grossglockner/Heiligenblut and the Skischule Heiligenblut. The Schneesportschule Grossglockner/Heiligenblut offers group and private lessons for skiers of all levels, from beginners to advanced.
Ski school Heiligenblut only offers private lessons. You will receive 100% attention from your ski instructor.
There are also 2 options for renting your equipment. Intersport Großglockner and Sportladen Heiligenblut, both shops are located at the Hof in Heiligenblut.
