Where is Kitzbühel-Kirchberg?

Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is located in the Kitzbühel Alps in Austria. It stretches across Tyrol and Salzburg, with Kitzbühel and Kirchberg as its main towns.
Kitzbühel is approximately 95 kilometres east of Innsbruck and 80 kilometres south-west of Salzburg. Kirchberg is close to Kitzbühel (6km). Both towns are easily accessible by car and train.

Which villages are part of the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area?

As well as Kitzbühel and Kirchberg, the Kitzbühel - Kirchberg ski area includes Reith bei Kitzbühel, Aurach, Jochberg, Mittersill, Hollersbach and Aschau im Spertental.

Kitzbühel is one of the most iconic and stylish ski resorts in Austria.
Kitzbühel (800m) is centrally located in the ski area. From the town you can access both the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbüheler Horn. As well as skiing and snowboarding, Kitzbühel offers cross-country skiing, ice skating, winter hiking and tobogganing. There are several spas and excellent restaurants, as well as exclusive boutiques and galleries.

Kirchberg is definitely one of Austria's most popular ski resorts. From Kirchberg you have direct access to the KitzSki area. This is via the Fleckalmbahn, Maierlbahn and Pengelstein lifts. In Kirchberg (837m) you'll find everything you need for a great winter sports holiday. What you will also find here is great après-ski. Kirchberg is known for its lively après-ski scene with many cosy bars, pubs and discos.

Reith bei Kitzbühel lies between Kitzbühel and Kirchberg. It is a quiet village with the charm you are looking for. Reith bei Kitzbühel (762m) is ideal for families and those looking for peace and quiet. There is a training area and a couple of ski lifts. There is no direct connection from the village to the main ski area. There are some lovely walks from here.

Aurach bei Kitzbühel (800m) is located 5km south of Kitzbühel. The quiet, atmospheric village has no ski lifts to the ski area. A ski bus will take you to the resort. However, there is a 4.5km toboggan run on the Kelchalm. There is also a beautiful wildlife park in Aurach.

Jochberg is about 10km south of Kitzbühel. Jochberg (923m) has direct access to the KitzSki area. There is a practice slope, a ski school for beginners and some nice downhill runs. For the little ones there is a Kinderland (at the Hausleiten drag lift) and you can go tobogganing. There are also a few shops and restaurants in Jochberg.

Mittersill lies at an altitude of 790 metres. It is in the province of Salzburg, on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. From the village, the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen cable car provides direct access to the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area. In Mittersill you can go cross-country skiing, hiking and tobogganing. Mittersill has all the necessary amenities such as shops and restaurants. 

Hollersbach (800m) is close to Mittersill, also in the SalzburgerLand. Hollersbach is a quiet village with little or no après ski. The Panoramabahn takes you to the ski area.  Popular for cross-country skiing and winter walking.

Aschau is at the end of the Spertental valley, about 9km from Kirchberg. Aschau (1014m) has no direct connection to the ski area. It is a small, idyllic village with beautiful views of the Grosser Rettenstein. Perfect for nature lovers and hikers.

How big is the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area?

It is a huge ski area with 196 kilometres of groomed slopes, more than 55 modern lifts, a huge variety of ski routes, deep snow runs, for boarders and freestylers and it is a party in DC Area 43 Kitzbühel) with rails, kicker lines, steep slopes and waves. There is a modern snowmaking system with over 700 snow cannons.

Connection Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser
Between Aschau and Kirchberg you can use the Met Ki-West cable car to reach the slopes of Brixen and Westendorf directly. You can also reach Brixen in about 10 minutes by ski bus or by car. There you can take the gondola lift to access over 275 km of slopes in the Wilder Kaiser Ski World.

How many ski lifts are there in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg?

The resort has no fewer than 57 lifts, which take winter sports enthusiasts to over 230 kilometres of slopes. There are 12 gondolas, 27 chair lifts and 18 T-bar lifts. The lifts are modern and well maintained, so queues are generally short.

Is Kitzbühel-Kirchberg recommended for beginners?

Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is a good choice if you are a beginner or not so experienced skier:
The area has many wide blue runs (more than 100km). You don't have to worry about steep slopes. There are also several special beginners' practice areas, such as the practice area at the bottom of the Hahnenkamm lift.
Many of the lifts are chairlifts or gondolas, which are easy to get on.

What are the facilities for children in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg?

Popular black runs include the Direttissima, the Ganslern and of course the Streif. This is one of the most famous and challenging slopes in the world, best known for the annual Hahnenkamm ski race.

There are several snowparks in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg.
In Kirchberg, for example, there is the KitzSki Snowpark Hanglalm. This is the biggest park in the area. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced riders and features obstacles such as kickers, rails, boxes, spines and jib elements.

On the Kitzbüheler Horn you will find the snowpark of the same name. It is less crowded and has a more relaxed atmosphere. This park is also suitable for beginners and advanced freestylers.

Is snow guaranteed in the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area?

Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is snow-sure thanks to a combination of high-altitude slopes, extensive snowmaking and good grooming.

In particular, the favourable north-westerly position ensures very good snow conditions. In addition, almost all pistes are equipped with snow cannons or lances. This ensures good skiing even in poor conditions.
