Information Ski Area Stubai Valley

Are you planning your skiing holiday in the beautiful Stubaital and still looking for the right holiday accommodation in Neustift, Mieders or Fulpmes? Where is the Stubaital located?

The Stubai Valley is located in Tyrol and is surrounded by the Stubai Alps. From Innsbruck you can reach the Stubaital in about 20 minutes via the Brenner motorway. The valley is about 40 kilometres long. There are 5 villages here, of which Fulpmes, Mieders and Neustift are the main 3. The river Ruetz flows through the valley.
At the end of the Stubaital is Austria's largest glacier, the Stubai Glacier. Here, at an altitude of around 3,300 metres, you can ski from October to June. 

Which ski areas are part of it?

There are 4 ski areas in the Stubai Valley: Schlick 2000, Elfer, Serlesbahnen and the Stubai Glacier. The highest ski area is the Stubai Glacier, which reaches an altitude of around 3,300 metres.
In total, there are around 110 kilometres of pistes in the Stubaital (blue 43 km, red 30 km, black 12 km and a further 22 km of ski routes). The Schlick 2000, Serlesbahnen and Gletscher ski areas are ideal for beginners.

What is the Schlick2000 ski area?

Schlick 2000 is located near Fulpmes at the entrance to the Stubai Valley. With 25 km of slopes, 16 km of which are blue, 6 km red and 3 km black, Schlick 2000 has something for everyone. The Zirmach cable car takes you up to 2,240 metres in comfort and speed.
Snow conditions are always good and skiing is usually possible well into the spring. 

Schlick 2000 has a fun park and Big Ron's Kinderland for the little ones.

What is there in the Serlesbahnen ski area?

The smaller ski resort of Serles is close to Mieders.  Serles has 4 lifts and about 6 km of slopes, including 3 km of blue and 3 km of red slopes. It lies between 982 and 1680 metres above sea level.
It is a cosy and comfortable ski resort, very suitable for families, beginners and children.

There is no snow park at Serles. However, there are 4 different toboggan runs that go down into the valley. You can also go hiking and cross-country skiing.

How is the Elfer ski area?

The third resort is called 'Elfer' and is located near the Tyrolean town of Neustift. The area goes up to an altitude of 2080 metres.  Elfer has about 6km of pistes, of which 3.5km are ski trails. The remaining 2.5 km are mainly red runs. The resort has 4 lifts, 3 T-bar lifts and the 8-seater cable car, which takes you up to an altitude of 1800 metres.

How is it on the Stubaier Glacier?

The Stubai Glacier at the end of the Stubai Valley is one of the largest glaciated areas in Europe. It has something for every winter sports enthusiast: easy, wide pistes, mogul runs and challenging ski routes.

In which village is it best to rent accommodation?

For a holiday home or chalet in the Stubai Valley, there are many options in the villages of Fulpmes, Mieders and Neustift. Schlick 2000 is close to Fulpmes, while the Serlesbahnen area is close to Mieders. Neustift is close to the Elfer ski area. Use our search function to find the right accommodation for you.

How many kilometers of ski slopes are there in total?

There are plenty of opportunities for a great skiing holiday in the Stubai Valley: around 110 kilometres of pistes! (Blue 43 km, Red 30 km, Black 12 km, plus 22 km of cross-country ski trails). 

How many and what types of ski lifts are there?

The Stubai Valley is served by 18 ski lifts, 10 chair lifts and 9 cable cars. The lifts are modern and well maintained.

Is the Stubaital ski area suitable for beginners?

The Stubai Valley is perfect for beginners! 3 of the 4 ski areas (Schlick 2000, Serlesbahnen and on the glacier) have fine blue slopes for beginners.

Is the ski area suitable for advanced skiers?

The Stubai Valley is also an attractive winter sports destination for advanced skiers. Schlick 2000 and the glacier in particular offer a challenge! On the Stubai Glacier you will find some really challenging downhill runs as well as unprepared ski routes, including the beautiful 10km Wilde Grub'n, which leads down into the valley.

Is there also a snow park in the Stubaital?

Yes indeed! There are 2 snowparks in the Stubaital:
Snowpark Stubai Zoo is located on the glacier. The park is located on a sunny slope with beautiful views. There are several lines for beginners and advanced riders.
The second funpark in the Stubai Valley is on the Sennjoch slope in the Schlick 2000 ski area.

Is the Stubaital snow reliable?

The Stubai Valley is very snow-sure, especially because of the glacier. Due to the high altitude of up to 3,200 metres, snow conditions in winter are excellent! You can ski here until June. 
But you can almost always ski in the other areas too. The Schlick2000 ski area, for example, goes up to over 2,200 metres. In addition, most of the slopes are equipped with modern snow cannons that can quickly make enough snow when needed.

Can you also go cross-country skiing in the Stubaital?

The Stubai Valley offers excellent cross-country skiing. In the valley near Fulpmes and Neustift there are no less than 40 kilometres of trails. There are 2 high-altitude trails on the Stubai Glacier and in Schlick 2000, and at Milders (Neustift) there is even a floodlit trail so you can ski in the dark.
Whether you are an experienced cross-country skier or a beginner, you are sure to have a great time in the Stubaital!

Are there also toboggan runs?

Yes, the Stubai Valley is a great place for tobogganing! The Stubaital is the largest tobogganing region in Tyrol with a total of 43 km of toboggan runs. There are a total of 8 approved toboggan runs in the Stubaital.

The Elfer toboggan run leads to Neustift. The toboggan run is 8km long and is lit three nights a week. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday you can toboggan in the evening.
Elfer is also home to Tyrol's longest floodlit toboggan run. It is 9 km long and goes from the Elfer through the Pinnistal. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday the toboggan run is illuminated with lanterns.

Can you go off-piste in the Stubaital ski area?

Yes, you can ski off-piste in the Stubai Valley!
On the Stubai Glacier you will find the 'Powder Department'. There are up to 14 freeride runs in the open ski area. On the glacier you can also book a safety course specifically for off-piste skiing. The Schlick 2000 ski area also offers plenty of opportunities for freeriders.

Which ski pass do I need in the Stubaital?

It is possible to buy a separate ski pass for the different areas Schlick 2000, Serlesbahnen, Elfer and Stubai Glacier, you can also buy the Stubai Ski Pass. This gives you access to all 4 resorts.

Another option is the extended SKI plus CITY Pass Stubai Innsbruck. This ski pass is valid in all 13 ski resorts around Innsbruck, including Kühtai, Axamer Lizum and Hochoetz, which together offer more than 300 km of slopes. The pass not only gives you access to these slopes, but also to all kinds of excursions. 

Is there après-ski in the Stubaital?

Of course there is après ski in the Stubai Valley!
In Fulpmes there are several cosy après ski bars, including one at the valley station. Neustift also has several après ski bars (e.g. Dorfpub and Wilde Grube) where you can party into the night after skiing. There are fewer options in Mieders, but the Serles Schirmbar is definitely the place to go for a beer or other drink.

Are there ski schools and ski rental in the Stubaital?

There are several ski schools in the Stubai Valley where you can book ski lessons for all levels. It is advisable to book your ski lessons in advance to ensure a place.
