The Hintertuxer Glacier is located in Tyrol, in the Zillertal Valley to be precise. It is part of the Tux Alps and is located near the village of Hintertux. The glacier is accessible all year round and offers many leisure activities such as skiing and hiking.
There are several villages close to the Hintertux Glacier.
Tux consists of several villages such as Lanersbach, Juns, Madseit and Vorderlanersbach. Finkenberg is a little further away from the glacier. Finkenberg also offers easy access to the other ski resorts in the Zillertal.
A little further away from the glacier is the very famous and popular Mayrhofen. Mayrhofen offers a wide range of holiday homes, group accommodation and apartments. From here you can easily reach Hintertux and the surrounding ski areas by car or public transport.
In winter there are 62 kilometres of ski runs on the glacier. This is divided into 16 kilometres of blue runs, 34 kilometres of red runs and 12 kilometres of black runs. In summer there are around 20 kilometres of pistes.
There are several gondolas, chair lifts and tow lifts on the Hintertux glacier. The Gletscherbus I and Sommerbergbahn gondolas take you to the top. In total there are 6 gondolas (also Gletscherbus 2 and 3, Fernerhaus and Gefrorene Wand). There is always room for 8 or 10 people in the gondolas. So you can get to the top quickly and comfortably. There are also 6 different chair lifts (including the Tuxerjoch) and 9 T-bar lifts. The chairlifts and tows take you to the middle and upper slopes. For an overview, see the interactive piste map of the Hintertuxer Glacier.
You can get to the glacier from the village of Hintertux. Hintertux is at the end of the Ziller Valley.
The Hintertuxer Glacier ski area is the highest ski slope and lift in Austria, and the only place you can ski all year round.
Yes, there is a snowpark (Betterpark Hintertux) on the Hintertux glacier. From autumn to spring, the park offers excellent conditions and a variety of offers for freestyle skiers and snowboarders. The Betterpark is located at an altitude of around 3,200 metres.
Yes, the ski area on the Hintertuxer Glacier is very snow reliable. Due to the high altitude of up to 3,250 metres, snow conditions are good all year round. The Hintertux Glacier is the only ski area in Austria that is open all year round. In the summer there are usually 20 kilometres of slopes.
There are no cross-country trails on the glacier. Around Hintertux there are 28 km of well groomed trails (some of which are skating style). In total, there are more than 100 km of cross-country trails in the Zillertal.
The Hintertuxer Glacier ski area is located in the Zillertal. Within the Zillertal, the ski area is part of the larger Zillertal 3000, which connects ski areas such as Mayrhofen, Finkenberg and Hippach Schwendau.
