The Weißsee Gletscherwelt is located in the Stubachtal Valley, Pinzgau, Salzburger Land. The area takes its name from its location near the Weißsee lake in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Kaprun Glacier is close by. The region has an impressive mountainous landscape with peaks over three thousand metres high. The nearest town is Uttendorf.
Weißsee Gletscherwelt is easy to reach, but a little further away from the motorway.
You can reach the Weißsee Glacier World via the Kufstein Süd, Siegsdorf (toll-free via Germany) and Bischofshofen motorways. The nearest airport is Salzburg, 129 km away.
From Uttendorf, drive to the departure point of the Rudolfshütte 2 cable car in Enzingerboden. Free parking is available here.
The Weißsee Gletscherwelt is a quiet, family-friendly ski area. With around 23 kilometres of pistes, it is a small resort, but it is not overcrowded and the atmosphere is relaxed.
The slopes are perhaps more suitable for slightly advanced skiers. However, with 6 kilometres of blue slopes, beginners will also find their place. The piste at the middle station is particularly good for beginners. More advanced skiers can try the Medelzkopf and Grünsee slopes. There is also the Lederer ski school for beginners and advanced skiers. The Kinderland at the Lederer ski school is a great place for children to get their first taste of skiing.
Prices at the resort are moderate compared to larger resorts, making it particularly attractive for families. Two children under 12 can even ski for free when accompanied by their parents.
There are plenty of opportunities for freeriders and touring skiers to enjoy some of Austria's finest winter sports.
From the terrace of the Berghotel Rudolfshütte you can enjoy the beautiful views of the high mountains around you.
There are a number of places nearby that can be an excellent base for a summer holiday or winter sports in the Weißsee Gletscherwelt:
Uttendorf (804m) is the nearest village. It is the gateway to the ski area. From here you can access the Stubachtal valley, which leads to the Weißsee Gletscherwelt. From Uttendorf you can also ski to Zell am See-Kaprun. In summer, Uttendorf is a perfect base for hiking, mountain tours and other activities in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Uttendorf has restaurants, shops and everything you need for your holiday. At Ferienhaus-Tirol you will find a wide range of holiday homes in Uttendorf.
The free ski bus takes you from Uttendorf to the valley station at Enzingerboden. From there you can take the Weißsee glacier lift to the slopes.
Stuhlfelden (800m) is a small, picturesque village and a good starting point for the ski area. Stuhlfelden is just a few kilometres from Uttendorf.
Pirtendorf (860m) belongs to Stuhlfelden and is also close to the Weißsee Glacier World Ski Area. It is a small rural village offering peace and relaxation in an idyllic setting.
Most of the slopes in the ski area are above 2000 metres and are very snow-sure. There is a lot of snow in winter. There are snow cannons between Rudolfshütte and the middle station at Grünsee, which are used when there is little snowfall.
The upper slopes and the slopes at Tauernmoossee are not covered with snow cannons due to conservation measures.
As well as the familiar winter sports of skiing and snowboarding, you can do all sorts of other things here.
For example, you can go ice climbing on the frozen waterfalls - super exciting! This is also possible under supervision. Less exciting, but very nice, is snowshoeing or dog sledding, a different way to enjoy the winter. Of course you can also go tobogganing in Uttendorf, the toboggan run is at the Alpengasthof Liebenberg.
There is also a long slide, the Rutschhügel, at the 'Parkplatz Süd am Badesee'. Guaranteed fun for young and old!
