Where is Werfenweng?

The town and ski resort of Werfenweng is located in the Pongau region of the Austrian province of Salzburg. The region is renowned for its beautiful scenery.

Is Werfenweng easy to reach?

Werfenweng is easy to reach. It is close to the A10 motorway, from which you can reach Werfenweng in about 6 minutes. 
If you are travelling by train, get off at Bischofshofen, 15 minutes from Werfenweng. Salzburg Airport is a 40 minute drive away.

If you travel to Werfenweng by train or bus and have a Werfenweng Card, you can use the W³-Shuttle free of charge on your arrival and departure. The shuttle will pick you up at the station and take you to your accommodation in Werfenweng. You can also use the shuttle to go shopping during your holiday. The Werfenweng Card is available in different versions and offers many other benefits.

What is the skiing area like?

The ski resort of Werfenweng is renowned for its beautiful scenery and family-friendly atmosphere. From the top you can see the Großglockner, Großvenediger and Kitzsteinhorn.
Werfenweng is particularly popular with families, with children's slopes and the IKI's Snowpark. The IKI's Snowpark has 8 themed slopes, a chill-out zone and a mini toboggan run.
Werfenweng is also a great ski resort for adults.
The ski area has around 29 kilometres of well-prepared slopes, including 13 kilometres of easy blue slopes, 15 kilometres of medium difficulty slopes and 1 kilometre of black slopes.

The gondolas and lifts are modern. From Werfenweng, the Ikarus cable car takes you up to Bischlinghöhe at 1834m. From here you can take the breathtaking panoramic run down to the valley.

What towns are close to Werfenweng?

The cosy village of Werfenweng (902m) is about 50km from the beautiful city of Salzburg. Werfenweng is quiet and car free. If you are travelling to Werfenweng by train, there are free transfers to and from Pfarrwerfen and Bischofshofen stations.
If you want to ski in the area, the resort of Werfenwang is an excellent choice.

Werfen is just a few kilometres from Werfenweng. Werfen is famous for Hohenwerfen Castle and the Eisriesenwelt, the largest ice cave in the world. Pfarrwerfen is a charming village nearby, where peace and quiet reign supreme. There is a railway station in Pfarrwerfen.

Bischofshofen is a slightly larger town, about 15 kilometres from Werfenweng. Bischofshofen is well known as part of the famous Four Hills Tournament.

About 20 kilometres away is the larger St. Johann im Pongau, part of the Salzburger Sportwelt ski area. St Johann im Pongau has all kinds of shops and restaurants.

Is the Werfenweng ski resort snow reliable?

The Werfenweng ski resort is considered to be virtually snow-sure. The slopes reach up to 1834 metres, which usually means plenty of natural snow.  Snow is guaranteed by snow cannons, so you can ski even if there is not enough snow. 

Is there a snow park in Werfenweng?

There is a snowpark in Werfenweng: IKI's Snowpark. There are themed slopes and a chill-out zone for children and families. There is also a mini toboggan run.

Which ski resorts are nearby?

Looking for some extra miles of slopes nearby? The Salzburg ski resorts of Hochkönig and Salzburg Sportwelt are just 30 minutes away.

Can I go cross-country skiing in Werfenweng?

You can also go cross-country skiing in Werfenweng. There are over 30 kilometres of perfectly groomed cross-country trails. One of the most beautiful trails is the 6km Panorama Trail, which runs from the centre of town to the Zistelberg plateau.
The showpiece of Werfenweng's cross-country network is the Wengerauloipe. From the starting point in Werfenweng, the trails run up the Werfenweng valley towards the Tennengebirge mountains.

Are there toboggan runs?

Tobogganing is an essential part of any winter sports holiday in Austria, and Werfenweng is no exception! The Köpfl Flitzerbahn has a 1,200 metre long toboggan run with beautiful bends. On Tuesdays and Fridays the toboggan run is also open in the evening when it is pleasantly lit up.

Can I go off-piste in Werfenweng?

For off-piste skiing, don't come to Werfenweng. If this is an important part of your winter holiday, try Dachstein-West or Gastein.

What kind of ski pass do I need in Werfenweng?

The Werfenweng ski pass gives you access to all the lifts and slopes in the Werfenweng ski area. You can choose from half day, full day or multiple day passes.
You can also buy the Salzburg Super Ski Card. This card gives you access to many of Salzburg's ski resorts, including Werfenweng, the Salzburger Sportwelt and Hochkönig. This card is ideal if you plan to visit several ski resorts in the region.

Is there après-ski in Werfenweng?

There is no extensive après-ski in Werfenweng; it is mostly quiet here. Of course, you can always pop into a restaurant or bar for a drink. 

Are there ski schools and ski hire in Werfenweng?

There are 2 ski schools in Werfenweng, the Dorfschule and the Skischule Pro. These ski schools offer courses for children, adults, beginners and advanced skiers. You can also rent your skiing equipment in Werfenweng. We recommend that you arrange this on the checkyeti.com website.
