Lofer is situated in the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg. This beautiful valley is not far from the German border. It is a beautiful region with high mountains, deep gorges and wild rivers.
Lofer is an authentic village and is a popular holiday destination for both summer and winter sports. Near Lofer is the family ski resort Almenwelt Lofer.
Lofer is easily accessible via the A8 and A93 motorways. On the A8 Munich-Salzburg motorway, the Siegsdorf/Traunstein exit is the closest exit to Lofer, from where it is about 35 km to Lofer.
The nearest airports are Salzburg (approx. 40 km) and Munich.
The Lofer Alpine World Ski Resort is ideal for beginners and families with children. There are many easy runs (32 km of blue runs) and wide slopes. There are also 12 km of red runs and 3 km of black runs. The Hochwena-Alpin slope is a real challenge for advanced skiers.
The lifts here are modern, with considerable investment in safe and fast transport to the top.
It is a cosy ski area and there are several mountain huts, such as Kecht Alm and Soder Kaser, where you can relax and enjoy yourself. From some of the huts you have a great view of the slopes.
Near the Almenwelt Lofer ski resort there are 4 towns that together form the Salzburg Saalachtal tourist region.
Lofer is the main town in the area and the starting point for the ski area.
Here you will find everything you need for a great ski holiday: ski schools, ski hire, supermarket, restaurants and bars.
Sankt Martin bei Lofer: This is a small idyllic village next to Lofer.
Unken: Another picturesque village in the Saalachtal, a little further up the valley.
Weißbach bei Lofer: A quiet village which is also a good starting point for your summer holiday.
You will find several holiday homes, apartments and chalets in these villages on our website. A holiday home here is a great starting point for your summer or winter sports holiday in the Lofer and Saalachtal Alpine world.
The Almenwelt Lofer winter sports area stretches up to 1,750 m above sea level. Thanks to a large number of snow cannons, the pistes are well covered even when there is little snow. For example, the beautiful 9 kilometre run down to the valley is guaranteed snow almost all year round.
There are 2 snowparks in the Almenwelt Lofer, the "LOFI Funline Lofer" and the "Hexen Funline".
The Snowpark LOFI Funline Lofer is located at the Family Express and is a playground for children with golf courses, obstacles and jumps.
The Hexen Funline near the 8-seater chairlift SenderExpress is also great fun. The funline is about 1 km long and runs through the forest. There are all kinds of great jumps with a witch theme.
In the Almenwelt, you can go cross-country skiing or take a nice walk. For example, there is a 1.5 km or 4 km cross-country trail with no less than 4 restaurants along the way where you can take a break.
There is also a 4km high altitude cross-country trail, which starts and finishes at the Schönblick restaurant.
The surrounding Saalachtal valley has about 80 km of cross-country trails. If you like cross-country skiing, this is the place to be!
If tobogganing is part of your winter sports holiday, you can also visit Salzburg's Saalachtal valley.
There are 10km of varied toboggan runs, including the Fahrstraße in Lofer.
Off-piste skiing is fairly limited here. However, when snow conditions are good, you can still access the Schönbühel and Schwarzeck slopes.
The Almenwelt Lofer ski pass gives you access to all 46 kilometres of pistes and all the lifts in the area. You can also use this ski pass to access the neighbouring Unken-Heutal ski area. Here you will find another 11 km of slopes.
3 Länder Freizeit-Arena
Another option is to purchase the 3 Länder Freizeit Arena Card. This gives you access to up to 171 kilometres of slopes and 61 lifts in the ski areas of St. Johann in Tirol & Oberndorf, Erpfendorf, Pillersee - Buchensteinwand, Kirchdorf, Steinplatte Waidring, Winklmoosalm - Reit im Winkl. This card is also valid for Unken and Almenwelt Lofer.
At the bottom station of the Loferer Almbahn there are a couple of nice après-ski bars, such as Café Bobo's. In Lofer itself, there are several cafes and bars where you can get really cosy!
